How much does it cost to fix a leaning fence?

It depends on how many posts have failed. A lean is a post problem. One or two posts puts the job in the standard row of the table. If most posts along a run are loose, it costs less to rebuild the run once than to pay for several visits.

Why is my fence leaning, and can it be fixed without replacing it?

In most cases it can be fixed. The usual causes in Queens are wood posts rotted at ground level, steel posts rusted through at the same spot, frost lifting footings that were set too shallow, and wind pushing on solid panels after the ground is soaked. If the panels and rails are still good, we set new posts and rehang them.

How much does it cost to replace a rotted fence post?

One or two posts usually fall in the $300 to $900 national range. We dig out the old post and its footing, set a new post in concrete and reattach the rails. A post that sits in a concrete yard takes longer, because the slab has to be cut or core drilled first.

My gate sags and will not latch. Repair or replace?

Repair is usually enough. Check the hinge post first. When it moves, the gate drops and the latch no longer lines up. Loose hinges and a gate frame that has gone out of square do the same thing. We reset or replace the post, brace the frame and shift the latch. A gate with a rotted or rusted-out frame gets rebuilt.

How much does a contractor charge to fix a broken gate latch?

That is a minor repair, $100 to $300 in the national 2026 figures. Most fence companies have a minimum charge for coming out, so add any other small fixes to the same visit.

My fence posts lifted over the winter and the gate will not close. Can they be reset?

Yes, though hammering them back down does not last. This is frost heave. Water in the soil freezes, grips the footing and lifts it, and the post does not settle back to where it was. The fix is a new footing set deeper, with a shape the frost cannot grab. For comparison, the New York City Building Code puts building footings at least 4 feet below grade for frost protection.

My fence line goes wavy every winter. Is it the soil or a bad installation?

Mostly the installation. Queens ground freezes every winter, and footings that are too shallow rise by different amounts, so the top line waves. Soil plays a part: clay on the ridge holds water and heaves more than the sand in the south of the borough. Deeper posts with drainage at the bottom stay level.

A branch bent my aluminum fence. Do I need a whole new panel?

Not always. Some aluminum fences are built from separate rails and pickets, and then only the bent pieces are changed. Others are factory-welded panels, and the damaged panel is replaced whole. Text us a photo and we can usually say which you have.
